Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. When she reached nine years old, the family of Decker was living in Louisiana and she was the winner of an annual regional talent competition with the cover of Patsy's "I Would Like to Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker was a resident of Georgia when she was fifteen years old. She wrote songs frequently and visiting Nashville to look for bargains. In 1997, she had just turned 17 years old when a Big Yellow Dog Records rep saw her. The rep began selling her songs as well as music to numerous musicians and record companies. Decker's demos, which were heard by Mercury Records president David Massey and then passed to L.A. Reid of Island/Def Jam Group affiliated label group L.A. Reid was able to bind Decker to a contract. Jessie James, her moniker for her album that she dropped under that name on August 9, 2009 was her own self-titled. Jessie James enjoyed a modest amount of success and Wanted was able to reach the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. Decker was a country singer who believed herself to be a traditional country performer in the past was surprised that her album was not marketed and produced with a focus at a mass audience. Decker was adamant with the label to get more control over her music after two other singles fell. Her next release, Boys in the Summer is more country-oriented. The album that Decker released as Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was canceled after Mercury saw the poor performances of three of her singles on the country charts.
